Director, Teacher and Theatre Maker.
Rachel Betts is a Director, Teacher and Theatre Maker based in London and the South East of England. She is an Associate Director of Oily Cart and is on the Board of Directors for Theatre-Rites. Since 2011 Rachel has been a Visiting Lecturer at Royal Holloway University of London leading the courses Theatre for Young Audiences, Theatre and Education and offering MA supervision.
She founded and was Artistic Director of Patchwork Theatre Company for 6 years directing theatre and drama projects in schools, hospitals and community settings across the UK and funded by Creative Partnerships. Her directing and teaching work has taken her to the townships of South Africa, India and Japan. Since 2011 she has been director of a theatre school for young people in Croydon, which has grown to welcome over 280 students every weekend.
Rachel has been awarded funding from Arts Council England for the research and development of a show for 3-6 year olds. Out of Nowhere is an immersive, interactive and multi-sensory experience supported by Oily Cart. To date has been shared with 280 children and teachers at schools across Croydon.
Rachel is a writer and participant on the first year of The John Retallack Playwriting Course based in Oxford during 2017-2018.
